The recently concluded FNNMA programme delivered an impactful and thought-provoking conversation centered on the lived experiences of nurses who have taken their careers beyond national borders. Designed to inform, inspire, and prepare, the session created a safe space for honest storytelling and practical guidance for nurses exploring or already established in international practice.
Throughout the programme, speakers reflected on their individual journeys, tracing their paths from early career beginnings to their current professional realities and future aspirations. They spoke openly about navigating relocation, adjusting to unfamiliar healthcare systems, overcoming cultural and professional barriers, and finding stability and growth in new environments. Their transparency offered participants clarity on what the transition truly involves, beyond the idealised narratives often shared.
Career development formed a central part of the discussion. The panel highlighted how deliberate career choices, ongoing education, adaptability, and perseverance opened doors to specialised and leadership roles. Conversations also extended to long-term planning, including retirement considerations, evolving career motivations, and the importance of staying professionally fulfilled even beyond traditional working years.
An interactive Q&A session allowed attendees to engage directly with the speakers, addressing concerns around career transitions, work–life balance abroad, professional sustainability, and planning for the future with intention and purpose.
In all, the FNNMA programme stood out as timely and deeply relevant. It offered more than motivation it provided real-world perspective, shared wisdom, and actionable insight for nurses at every stage of their international journey, reinforcing the power of mentorship, shared experience, and forward-thinking in global nursing careers.
